I purposely put the title of this article in big letters to try and get as much attention as possible to the factual information I have to offer about this drug and its use in the treatment of Covid 19. Honestly, I really find it hard to believe that we are still discussing the merits of this drug being used in the hospitalized patient or as an outpatient management medication. To date, I am unaware of any credible study that has shown the efficacy of this drug in the treatment of Covid 19 at any level.

Hopefully, this will be the one last article I write about the inappropriate use of this drug in the treatment of the worse viral pandemic in my lifetime. What prompted this article today was a recent study looking at the use of ivermectin’s effect on the recovery of patients with mild to moderate Covid 19. These would be the patients that would test positive but have symptoms not requiring hospitalization. Currently, these patients would be offered paxlovid if they met the 5 day symptom limit.

Although I found it hard to believe researchers were still looking at the use of this drug in this way, I was open to new information.

Among 1800 patients randomize to either receive ivermection or placebo no significant improvement in the treatment group was found and the final conclusion was that there was no support for the use of ivermectin in the treatment of mild to moderate Covid 19
