NEW YEAR 2021

What a year 2020 has been, and what a year 2021 promises to be. I was remembering, what seemed like only yesterday, when we went from 1999 to 2000.  There were dire warnings about the collapse of the financial systems around the world, the inability of many of our computer systems, including those used by the military and national defense, to accept the change of the century causing chaos, and possible unwitting nuclear destruction.  Well, it didn’t happen, did it?

The first big news items for 2021 will be the inauguration of a new president and the beginning of vaccinations for the COVID pandemic.  Both of these topics are highly controversial and should keep all the new feeds talking at light speed for hours.

When it comes to the potential help offered by the corona vaccines, we all need to be mindful that for most Americans, immunization will not occur until later in the year, perhaps April, May or June.  Front line medical personnel, elderly nursing home patients, and caregivers will likely receive one of the first vaccines.  I hope that the vaccination program is more organized and resourceful than the COVID testing program.

The inauguration probably should not occur publically since large crowds, not socially distanced, standing shoulder to shoulder for hours, would represent a superspreader event.  Besides, like most football games, the best seat is usually on your sofa near the snacks and beverages.

Ok, 2021 we are ready to begin.
